BREATH

A living ecosystem for health innovation talent

BREATH is a European initiative that aims to build a dynamic and sustainable Talent Ecosystem in Health Innovation (HI) across Catalonia, Flanders, and Lithuania. By connecting academic and non-academic institutions, regional clusters, and policymakers, the project empowers Early-Career Researchers (ECRs) with personalised career paths, tailored training, and individualised guidance — all designed to meet the evolving needs of the health innovation sector.

Inspired by the adaptability of a living cell, BREATH fosters a people-centred approach to talent development. It equips researchers with a unique “DNA” of scientific and transversal skills, recognised through micro-credentials, to thrive in both academic and non-academic careers.
Through regional collaboration and strategic alignment with EU initiatives, BREATH is shaping a more inclusive, connected, and future-ready research landscape.

BREATH meets the needs

Despite its growth, the Health Innovation sector faces persistent challenges that hinder talent development and retention. BREATH responds to three key needs:

Based on this scenario, BREATH will develop a series of targeted actions. These include collaborative mapping and data gathering among the three regions, tailored training programmes and guidance services.
